How To Wash Swimwear Properly

Just like lingerie, it's important to take extra care when washing your favourite swimwear. For bikinis and swimsuits, careful hand washing prevents shrinking and fading, maintaining its shape, stretch and support for seasons to come. So, how should you keep your swimwear looking and feeling its very best?

RINSE AFTER EACH WEAR

After leaving the water or even just a day spent on the beach, the first step is to rinse your swimwear as soon as possible with fresh water to remove chemicals like chlorine, body oils and sunscreen. A prompt rinse helps to maintain the shape and prevents stretching or deterioration.

THE HAND WASHING PROCESS

1. Fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water before adding the same gentle detergent you would wash other delicate clothing with, ensuring it is completely dissolved and evenly distributed.

2. Turn your swimwear inside out and make sure it is are fully submerged in the water leaving to soak for up to 20 minutes. After you've finished, lift it out and drain the sink.

3. Rinse each piece under running cool water and repeat until it runs clear.

MACHINE WASHING SWIMWEAR

Although hand washing is preferable for swimwear, machine washing can be just as delicate with some simple solutions. Turn pieces inside out and place into a wash bag. Select a delicate cycle, cool or warm water and use gentle detergent.

HOW TO DRY SWIMWEAR

Dry swimwear by laying it out in its original shape, reshaping its cups and dry it flat. Never put swimwear in the dryer as the high heat will destroy the piece's elasticity. Excess water should never be wrung out as this can damage the fabric.
